Biography

Alyssa has a general litigation practice with a focus on public law and commercial litigation, as well as appeals and judicial reviews. Alyssa has argued cases at all levels of court in Ontario, in the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, in the British Columbia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, and in the Supreme Court of Canada. 

Alyssa’s work cuts across practice areas and has engaged a diverse array of clients dealing with a wide variety of subjects. Her clients have included individuals, corporations, municipalities, Crown corporations, federal departments, a foreign state, and a provincial law society, as well as numerous public interest advocacy organizations. The subjects she has dealt with include corporate and commercial law, shareholder rights, professional liability, class actions, trusts and real property law, insolvency law, as well as all aspects of constitutional and administrative law. 

Alyssa graduated summa cum laude from the University of Ottawa in 2006 and was the gold medalist.  After law school, Alyssa clerked for Justice Michel Bastarache of the Supreme Court of Canada and was called to the bar of Ontario in 2007.  Alyssa has taught appellate advocacy for ten years at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Common Law, as coach of the Laskin Moot (constitutional and administrative law) team.  Alyssa is a member of The Advocates’ Society Administrative and Regulatory Law Practice Group executive. She was recently named a 2020 Benchmark Litigation Future Star. 

Alyssa has an undergraduate degree in engineering (2002, B.S.c. (Eng. Chem), Queen’s University).  She approaches legal problems with the benefit of the critical and analytical skills developed through this experience.  Alyssa is the past co-chair of the County of Carleton Law Association technology committee and believes in using technology to create efficiencies for clients and present cases in novel ways.
