Katie Black, Recipient of the Gordon F. Henderson Award
March 4, 2016 - adcaza
Congratulations to Katie Black, Recipient of the Gordon F. Henderson Award!
The County of Carleton Law Association established the Gordon F. Henderson Award to honour a lawyer who is a member or former member of the County of Carleton Law Association and who, during the past year, has made a significant contribution to the welfare of the community by performing charitable services on behalf of the community. In recognition of their great dedication and high ideals in service to the community, each recipient will receive the Gordon F. Henderson Award and a $1,000 donation will be made by the CCLA, on their behalf, to the charity or charities of the recipient’s choice.
In 2015, when the Syrian refugee crisis was at its peak, Katie helped form the uOttawa Refugee Sponsorship Support Program (SSP) and devoted hundreds of hours to the cause. With her help, the program helped Canadians interested in sponsoring refugees get pro bono help from lawyers and law students that were trained in the process. The initiative, first launched in Ottawa, has spread across the country.
We could not be more proud of her role in this impressive program and incredibly important cause. Congratulations Katie and to all of the other award recipients!
